Have you ever viewed God as if he were a puppet master? Picture him holding the sticks and strings and looking down upon his puppet, say it be you or me. The thing with a puppet master is that he holds all the control. He makes the decision to every movement the puppet makes. The puppet has no say in the matter, no voice. It is completely and utterly under the hand and movement of the puppet master.

I once had this viewpoint of God. I use to think that he made all the decisions and it was his way or the highway. I viewed myself as someone small and under the authority of someone else holding all the power in my life. But the more I’ve come to know God, the more that viewpoint of him and myself changes. It changes because of what his word says, the truth that he speaks in Romans 8:15-16…

“And you did not receive the “spirit of religious duty,” leading you back into the fear of never being good enough. But you have received the “Spirit of full acceptance,” enfolding you into the family of God. And you will never feel orphaned, for as he rises up within us, our spirits join him in saying the words of tender affection, “Beloved Father!” For the Holy Spirit makes God’s fatherhood real to us as he whispers into our innermost being, “You are God’s beloved child!”

His word speaks that we are his beloved children, and he is our beloved Father! His word also speaks that we are all conquerors and that greater things than He has done, will we do. He has given us a voice to speak, to take dominion, to love, to command, and to shout victory! So why would God create something so wonderful, so loved, so miraculous and powerful and not want interaction from it?

That viewpoint of myself being a puppet and God the puppet master was soon destroyed and faded away quickly. God revealed to me that it is not him standing above me, hands holding on to sticks and strings. It is him standing in front of me, hands open to me and asking for my hands in his. It is a partnership. We are a team. He wants to know and hear what I want and desire, and I want to know what he wants and desires. He wants a conversation with me, that is open to express my ideas and imagination. Sharing my deepest desires and dreams, that’s what he wants to hear from all of us.

When we partner with him, that is where and when the impossible happens. When we are together, something wonderful is bound to happen. That is when his glory shines, and we truly get to experience all he has for us that is wildly more than we could possibly imagine.

He speaks to us and we speak to him, all and all, we are a good team!
